Hello from the Kellogg Institute!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reading my blog. I decided to start a blog while I'm here at the Kellogg Institute in Boone, NC. Basically, I'll journal a bit about dorm life, rap about what's going on here, and reflect on some of the interesting and important things I'm learning.

In case you're wondering, the Kellogg Institute is not run by Tony the Tiger and has no connection to the cereal company. As evidence of this, I'm scarfing down a bowl of Post's Honey Bunches of Oats right now in my dorm room, and there is no sign of the cereal police.

The Kellogg Institute is a 4-week intensive graduate program that is coordinated by the National Center for Developmental Education--which is housed on the remote and hilly campus of Appalachian State University. The 37 Kellogg fellows are made up of developmental math, writing, and reading teachers from 2-year and 4-year colleges. There are even some program coordinators and adminstrators here.
There are 4, one-week sessions: Assessment & Placement, Designing Learning Environments, Academic Support Services & Leadership, and Outcomes Assessment & Program Evaluation. Also, each of us is working on a practicum project that we will carry out at our home colleges when we return. I'm hoping to investigate our EN 50A exit exam process and procedures.
Talk to you all soon.
